11 Raiders named MSFL 1st team all-stars

Racine Raiders 2015 1st team offensive all-starsRacine Raiders 2015 1st team defensive all-starsThe MidStates Football League (MSFL) announced the Northern and Southern Conference all-star teams today. Eleven Racine Raiders players were named first team all-stars and another ten players were named second team all-stars.

Five players each from offense and defense were named first team all-stars and kicker Justin Schoepke was the only special teams player named to the all-star team.

The selections were picked based off of MSFL stats for the 2015 season and each owner voting for players. Each team nominated their players for the final ballot and then all owners ranked each player and stats were provided to make the final decision.

The MSFL is in talks with the Gridiron Football League (GFL) to do a mixed all-star game, in which the Northern Conference will face the Southern Conference of both leagues.

The offensive players named first team all-stars were:

  • Quarterback Craig McClelland – McClelland completed 57% of his passes in MSFL play, throwing for 1,104 yards, 15 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. He added 25 yards on the ground and another touchdown.
  • Running back J.R. Taylor – Taylor rushed for 420 yards in league play on 74 carries, an average of 5.7 yards per carry, with a long run of 54 yards. Taylor added 13 receptions for 138 yards. He had eight rushing touchdowns and two receiving touchdowns.
  • Wide receiver Myles Spiegel – Spiegel was third on the team with 13 receptions and second with 204 yards receiving. He had three touchdowns in league play.
  • Offensive lineman Dusty Svendsen – Svendsen provided veteran leadership at the right tackle position.
  • Offensive lineman Steven Tucker – Tucker joined the Raiders later in the season and there was a noticeable difference on the offensive line.

 

The defensive players named first team all-stars were:

  • Defensive end Larry Williams – Williams recorded 22 tackles, 3-1/2 tackles for loss,  2-1/2 sacks, and a pass defensed during MSFL play.
  • Defensive tackle Justin Ankley – Ankley had 17 tackles, including a monstrous 8 tackles for loss and 2 sacks. He added an interception and two passes defensed.
  • Linebacker Steve Kleist – Kleist led the Raiders with 30 tackles in MSFL play. He had 7-1/2 tackles for loss and 4-1/2 sacks. Kleist added a forced fumble, 2 pass breakups, and 1 interception which he returned 31 yards for a touchdown.
  • Cornerback Nate Heard – Heard has long been considered a shutdown cornerback and lived up those expectations again in 2015. Heard had 14 tackles, 4 pass breakups, and an interception, which he took 45 yards for a score.
  • Safety J.D. Hardy – Hardy had 20 tackles with 1/2 tackle for loss on the season. He added two pass breakups, an interception and a forced fumble.

The special teams player named first team all-star was:

  • Kicker Justin Schoepke – Schoepke followed up his rookie campaign with another stellar season. Schoepke converted 30 of 32 extra point attempts and was 6 for 8 on field goals with a career long of 43 yards.

The Raiders named second team all-stars were:

  • Offense – Wide receiver Terrance Fitch, tight end Chris Hicks, offensive lineman Kingston Wynn, offensive lineman Ryan Gails, and offensive lineman Wilton Jones III.
  • Defense – Defensive end Brandon Rogers, defensive tackle Pierre Smith, linebacker Deveron Davis, cornerback Eric Feest, and safety Torie Ruffin.
