Raiders Miss NAFL Playoffs, Enter Midwest Football Tournament

Midwest Football Tournament LogoThe Racine Raiders were not invited to the North American Football League (NAFL) playoffs and instead accept an invitation to the Midwest Football Tournament, hosted by National Football Events.

The team made the decision after seeing that the team was not listed in the NAFL's playoff bracket on Monday and a post-season decision needed to be made or the window of opportunity for another tournament would pass.

On Friday, the NAFL bounced the Detroit (MI) Downriver Diesel out of the playoffs and inserted Racine, however, the team had already made plans to enter the Midwest Football Tournament, according to Raiders President Joe Mooney.

"Their decision looked to us like we were receiving favoritism," said Mooney.

Instead, the Raiders will enter the Midwest Football Tournament and have the opportunity to host some post-season games at Historic Horlick Field in Racine.

Burlington Blue Devils Logo The Raiders will begin their post-season with a non-tournament game against the Burlington (WI) Blue Devils of the Ironman Football League (IFL), one of the top double-A leagues in the country.

The team expects to begin the Midwest Football Tournament at Historic Horlick Field on October 21st.    The Raiders have won the Midwest Football Tournament three times since it's inception in 1994.  The Raiders won in 1997, 2000 and 2001.  They were also part of the championship game that was cancelled in 2004.
