Tight End, 1964-1973

“Coach Harry Gilbert met me on the job at Southern Colony back in 1963,” Ron remembers, “and asked me to come and play some football.”

The next thing he knew, Ron was named All-League player in each of his first two seasons!

A 2003 inductee into the Raiders Hall of Fame, Ron had his number retired in 1979, six years after his last season.

“I just liked being with the players,” he says. “We always had a good time together. Of course, there was our 25-game winning streak in the mid-60’s that came to an end before 7,000 fans at Horlick Field. The Madison Mustangs beat us at home; that’s not such a pleasant memory!”

Ron now lives in Rochester with his wife, Sue. They have two grown boys. He turned 64 in 2004 and keeps busy officiating high school volleyball, football, basketball, baseball, and softball for the WIAA.

Ron’s number was retired in 1979.
