Ducks Own The Air in Win Over Raiders

Howard TriplettThe Racine Raiders (1-1) suffered a 29-13 loss in their home opener against the Chi City Ducks at Historic Horlick Field on Saturday, June 3. Racine struggled keeping up with the Ducks’ offensive attack.

The night was going slow for the Raiders when quarterback Anthony Johnson threw an interception on the Raiders first offensive possession. Johnson struggled all night, throwing five interceptions, one of which turned into a pick six. In the 2016 season, Johnson only had a total of seven interceptions.

Running back Howard Triplett was the ray of light on the offense for the Raiders. Triplett rushed for a total of 125 yards and two touchdowns – one being 31 yards and the other 65. Head coach Wilbert Kennedy said he knew Triplett was going to bring a lot to this team and he showed it even when there were struggles throughout the night.

On the defensive side, linebacker Deveron Davis led the raiders with seven total tackles and also had a sack. Jaarael Bell and Torie Ruffin each had 4-1/2 tackles.

The Raiders will open their Mid-States Football League (MSFL) regular season against the 2016 MSFL champion Lincoln-Way Patriots on June 10, at 7 pm at Historic Horlick Field.
