FLASHBACK: 1968 – Gilbert accepts West Allis post

FlashbackHarry Gilbert, who took the Racine Raiders from the basement to two successive championships in the Central States Football League, was named Thursday as coach of the league’s newest team, the West Allis Spartans.

The Spartans were formed after the league disbanded the former West Allis Racers club.

Gilbert, 37, had an overall record of 33-8-2 with Racine before resigning as coach. His teams won titles in 1965 and 1966 and had a string of 23 successive wins.
