AM 1050 WLIP will be the new home for Racine Raiders broadcasts beginning with the 2019 season. The Raiders were most recently on WIPZ 101.5 FM, a low-power station owned by the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, for the past three years. Prior to that the Raiders had been on WRJN in Racine for 52 years.

“The Racine Raiders board of directors is always looking at how we can best serve our fans,” said board president Matt Nelson. “We feel that the greater reach that WLIP provides is an asset for our organization and fans.”

The red area is the local coverage area for AM 1050 WLIP meaning
within this area, listeners should be able to receive the radio station on almost any radio with good reception.

WLIP’s signal covers most of Kenosha and Racine Counties in Wisconsin and Lake County in Illinois. The signal is strong enough that it reaches north into Milwaukee County. WLIP will also carry Raiders games on their Internet stream through their website at https://www.wlip.com/.

“I am thrilled AM 1050 WLIP will be carrying the Racine Raiders games,” stated Karl Wertzler, general manager for WLIP and three other stations owned by Alpha Media in Southeastern Wisconsin and Northeastern Illinois. “This is a very nice addition to our local sports coverage and we are excited to get started!”

The Raiders will continue the organization’s internship program with the University of Wisconsin-Parkside and are looking at expanding the internship program to include Carthage College.

“We were very excited when WLIP management told us they strongly support our internship efforts,” noted Nelson. “It’s something we’ve been very proud of over the past two years and we look forward to providing an improved experience for our interns in 2019 and beyond.”

Don Wadewitz will be in the booth for his ninth season handling the play-by-play and 14th season as a member of the Raiders broadcast team. He’ll be joined by Tom Christensen or Evan Witalison on color commentary. Tom also begins his ninth season while Evan starts his third year on the broadcast team.

WLIP already carries Carthage College football and basketball games and high school sports. Due to the existing partnership with Carthage College, on the rare occasion a Raiders game conflicts with a Carthage game, WLIP will broadcast the Carthage game. The Raiders will then provide an audio-only Internet broadcast of the game.
