Raiders Clinch #2 Seed in Playoffs

2018 MSFL PlayoffsThe Racine Raiders will get a chance to avenge the team’s 20-16 home loss to the Rock County Rage last week in the first round of the MidStates Football League (MSFL) playoffs. The Raiders will host the Rage at Historic Horlick Athletic Field at 7 pm on August 25, 2018.

With the win over the Raiders, the Rage were in the driver’s seat to claim the number two seed in the Richhart Conference. They needed to win their final two games, a home game against the Thomas Conference leaders, the Lincoln Way Patriots, and a road tilt with the struggling Joliet Thunder. The Rage went into Saturday’s game against the Patriots knowing they just needed to win to get a first round home playoff game as the Joliet Thunder quietly forfeited their final game of the season against the Rage earlier in the week.

The Rage battled the Patriots, who were unbeaten in MSFL action entering the contest and had home field advantage locked up in the playoffs. The Patriots led just 14-8 going into halftime but scored 23 points in the third quarter on their way to a 51-14 blowout win.

The Rage loss allowed the Raiders to secure the number two seed and a first round home playoff game. The winner of the August 25 meeting between the Rage and Raiders will play in the conference championship game against either the top-seeded Wisconsin Hitmen or the Door County Destroyers.
