Raiders Clinch Home Field in MSFL Playoffs

Anton Graham celebrates a Racine Raiders victory over the Wisconsin Hitmen after forcing a fumble on a sack. The Wisconsin Hitmen had the Racine Raiders number over the past few seasons, winning three of the last four games between the two teams. Included in that are two playoff victories over the Raiders. The Raiders defense proved that it’s as good as advertised as they helped lead the Raiders to a 14-7 win over the Hitmen at Raabe Stadium in Wauwatosa, Wis., on Saturday.

The Hitmen defense keyed in on the Raiders running game, leaving it up to quarterback Mitchell Farr to carry the offense. Farr completed 11 passes to five different receivers while throwing for 179 yards and a touchdown. He completed passes of 43 and 40 yards, a touchdown toss, to wide receiver Jordan Payne. Payne also had a big moment on special teams, returning a punt 43 yards into Hitmen territory late in the first half. The Raiders would score on that drive on a one-yard run by Howard Triplett to give the Raiders a 14-0 lead heading into halftime.

Racine Raiders defensive back Daquan Smith knocks away a pass against the Wisconsin Hitmen on August 3, 2019, at Raabe Stadium. The Hitmen would cut the lead in half on 21 yard touchdown pass from Dylan Kelly to Carmelo Velasquez with ten minutes to play in the game. The Hitmen would get inside the Raiders 20-yard line with just over two minutes to play in the game. Wisconsin had a fourth down-and-four to try and convert. Kelly took the snap, dropped back, and was under immediate pressure from Anton Graham and Nick Jones. Graham got to him first, forced a fumble, and the Raiders recovered. The offense would get a first down and Racine ran out the clock.

The Raiders clinched the top seed in the Richhart Conference playoffs in the MidStates Football League with the win. They will now look to finish the season unbeaten as they host the Leyden Lions at Historic Horlick Athletic Field on Saturday, August 10. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 pm. The Raiders are hosting a free youth football camp during the day. Tickets are available online for a discount.
