Raiders hit road to take on Hitmen

Racine Raiders at Muskego HitmenThe Racine Raiders (3-0, 1-0 MSFL) hit the road for the first time in 2014 on Saturday. The team doesn’t have to travel far as they play the Muskego Hitmen (1-2, 0-1) at Whitnall High School in Greendale, Wis., about 30 minutes from Racine.

Racine is riding high to begin the season and are coming off quality wins over the Leyden Lions, Fox Valley Force and Springfield Foxes. The Lions and Foxes are both expected to be competing for playoff spots in the Mid-States Football League (MSFL) and the Force are a top team in the Northern Elite Football League and were the top-ranked team in the region in some polls when the Raiders beat them.

Muskego narrowly beat the West Allis Scorpions in their first game of the 2014 season but were then dominated by the Roscoe Rush. In their first MSFL game last week against the Racine Threat at Hammes Field, Muskego fell, 10-7. The game was scoreless at the half before the Threat opened up a 10-0 lead.

This is the second meeting of the two teams. The Raiders dominated Muskego 50-10 in the first meeting back on September 7, 2013, in front of over 1,500 fans at Historic Horlick Athletic Field. Craig McClelland passed for 235 yards and two touchdowns and Sam D’Alie grabbed six passes for 123 yards and a touchdown. J.R. Taylor had 15 carries for 110 yards. Joel DaPra made three field goals and completed a 24-yard pass on a fake punt.

Muskego is a much different team than the 2013 version. Like the Raiders, they have a new head coach in Eugene Dixon and several new starters. One veteran on their roster that has caused the Raiders problems over the years is running back Jo Jo Moore. In a 2008 game, while playing with the Wisconsin Wolfpack, Moore frustrated the Raiders, rushing for nearly 200 yards and three touchdowns.

Also in the backfield for the Hitmen is former Raiders running back Deonte Trawick, a shifty, speed back.

The Raiders look to extend their MSFL regular season winning streak to 17 games against the Hitmen. The game starts at 7 p.m. and can be heard on News/Talk 1400 AM WRJN and online at http://www.wrjn.com.
