Raiders/Chargers Game Suspended Due to Weather

Lake HorlickThe Racine Raiders game against the Milwaukee County Chargers was postponed by the City of Racine Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services after a 90 minute weather delay due to heavy rain and lightning. The Raiders led the Chargers 3-0 at the end of the first quarter when the game was suspended.

The game featured a 90-minute delay due to weather before it was officially suspended. There was concern that the field would face tremendous damage following a barrage of rain that left large puddles on the field, sidelines, and fan walkways at Historic Horlick Field.

The Raiders tried to keep fans updated and entertained on social media, posting photos of large puddles of water and activity in the press box during the delay. The team even posted videos, including one where fans could hear the rain-related music being played over the public address speakers. The Raiders and Kenosha Kingfish even shared a moment on Twitter where the the Raiders warned the Kingfish of the storm heading their way and the Kingfish replying with a meme. The Kingfish were playing in Kalamazoo Saturday night.

The game will be continued from the point of stoppage on a mutually agreeable date and time. The Chargers will have a first-and-ten at their own 44-yard line when the game resumes. The most likely date for a continuation is Saturday, August 12, 2017. It’s the week before the league playoffs begin.

The Raiders Board of Directors is in the process of determining what to do for fans that had tickets to the game. The team announced that the 50/50 raffle will roll over to the next home game so fans should retain their tickets.

More information will be posted to social media and the team website, and sent to the team’s email list once available.
