Saturday, August 30 Game Canceled

Racine Raiders logoThe Racine Raiders will not have a game on Saturday, August 30, 2014. Their scheduled opponent, the Nebraska Lawdawgs, have ceased operations. The Raiders contacted eight local teams with winning records to try and fill the opening left by the Lawdawgs folding but no opponents were available.

“We didn’t just want to bring in a team for the sake of having a game,” said board president Matt Nelson. “We wanted to find a quality opponent so we reached out to eight teams that all had winning records to see if they could come on Saturday.”

Unfortunately, with it being Labor Day weekend, none of the teams contacted could make it. Several of the teams were also in their league playoffs, which take place this weekend, and that ruled them out.

The Raiders will play their final regular season Mid-States Football League (MSFL) game next Saturday, September 6, 2014, against the Leyden Lions. With their convincing win over the Racine Threat last week, the Raiders clinched the top seed in the Northern Conference and home field advantage for as long as they are in the MSFL playoffs, including the MSFL championship game which will be played at Historic Horlick Athletic Field.

The Raiders will host their monthly Texas Roadhouse Meet-and-Greet at the Racine Texas Roadhouse on Monday, September 8, 2014, from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. The monthly event has been moved back a week due to the Labor Day holiday.
